I feel that telling people about the effect of the combination of genotype AS and AS in marriage is imbalanced. I feel people should also know about the merits of marrying a person with a genotype AS when you are also an AS. Only one advantage though.
The only advantage of a person with genotype AS and AS marrying each other is that they will buy less raids, mosquito coils, repellent and anti-malarial drugs in future. This is because each of them is less susceptible to Malaria compared to the AA party. But then ,is marriage life about killing mosquitoes together?
Nigeria has the highest burden for sickle cell disease . This is not because we have more witchcraft in Ijebu and Edo but is so because we have issues preventing the disease. The primordial prevention is impossible because Sickle Cell Disease is a genetic disorder (Inherited from parents), so we can do nothing about it once the genes have been passed.
A notable prevention is the primary prevention which has to do with genetic screening and counseling.I am not here to tell you about who to marrry or not. Kilomode mi mo? Afterall I am single and seriously searching for money!
But then, odigwa serious,it's not advisable to marry a person with genotype AS when you have the genotype AS. The probability of having a child with a sickle cell disease is just 25%, but you can't be playing with genetic something like Baba Jebu. If you have the genotype SS ,don't even try marrying a person with AS. The child you produce by such will feel sad for your wrong decisions and for putting them in so much pain. What if the ‘’two both’’ of you don’t want a child? Ok fine. Love is sweet.
There's a cure to sickle Cell disease called Bone Marrow transplantation but it's very expensive.
There’s also a test that can be done on the baby before it is born to see whether it is affected by sickle cell disorder or not. Nowadays, the best way to examine the material from the baby is by analysing the haemoglobin genes. This is called “DNA analysis”. Using this method, it is possible to detect the genes for haemoglobin A and haemoglobin S in the material from the baby’s developing placenta. This procedure is called Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS). But how many people can afford this?
The primordial prevention of sickle through genetic counseling is important and still valid anytime.
We can avoid this burden by going for genetic counseling.
Your village people is not always at work, sometimes they slow down,be wise!
It’s good you know about genotype AA,AS and SS. It’s good you know. Gbayi, you sabi how the go dey go!
But have you heard about other genotypes that exist? Yes, there are other ones. After round 1,original panadol extra,mo tun gbe de!
Some of us may have heard about them, but some how, they sound more like political parties in the ears than they sound like genotypes; politics no go kee us😂😂
AC,SC and CC are the uncommon ones. The last one even sounds more like a BB Naija lashes. Some will even say AC kor fan ni. But I tell you,Brethren, they exist, though rare.
Hello,It has nothing to do with your political party ,all ye Action Congress members!
AC,SC ,CC are just another kind of genotypes brought about by changes in the protein structure of the Red blood cell, known as globins chains (Haemoglobin) .In a normal genotype AA,the amino acid in both sides is glutamate ,but in AC,one side is glutamate and other lysine.
Ok .Story ni gbogbo yen.
AC is relatively as healthy as AA because they have no clinical signs and symptoms.
SS,SC and CC are associated with clinical signs and symptoms.
For people with one S and one C mutation, called sickle cell-hemoglobin C, i.e SC,they have less episodes of their blood cells clumping together than do people with SS, so they have less pain crises. SC and SS are almost the same only that SS suffers more severe crisis than SC carrier. You might not notice the presence of the disease on the body of SC carrier, unlike in SS.
Just like the SS, for SC,bone marrow transplant is a solution .
But then,we need to know that the same genotic counseling applies to these too.
Don’t hand over everything to God. Do the needful abeg!
If AS or AC marry each other, they have 25% chance of having a sickle cell child at every birth. If they marry SS or SC, they have 50% chance of having a sickle cell child at every birth.
An SC and another SC shouldn’t marry each other. That’s a terrible coalition of parties.
Any combination is also possible though,if the couple DO NOT plan to have CHILDREN.
Love is sweet o,abi kilomode mi mo?
Avoid putting health burdens on our nation.
For our Sickle cell warriors, stay strong!
