Dr David David the DG, Nigerian Books of Record Research Center has emerged as an ICON 2021, in the Green & White Achievers’ Award on the 25th of July, 2021.
The veteran writer and Nigerian multipotentialite was awarded in a category which is reserved for young business leaders who have distinguished themselves in their chosen career.
Dr David who was selected through a very rigorous vetting process by the Green & White board was presented with the award yesterday at the Best Western Starfire Hotel, Lagos.
The award is one of the many awards Dr David bagged in 2021 – a year that turned out to be very tough for most businesses due to effect of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Known as one of the most prominent voices attracting a new generation of readers to African literature, with scores of literary works to his credit, Dr David found his way into the heart of the Nigerian elites after his creation of a National Compendium, Nigerian Books of Record – a unique encyclopedia of Nigeria’s excellent records.
Aside from the award, Dr David was one of the guest speakers in the event. Speaking on the theme: Fixing the security challenges in Nigeria; Dr David called on the security agents to do all they could to secure our borders.
In his word, “On several occasions, it has been discovered that most of the bandits arrested in the north were not even Nigerians. Our porous borders probably made their entrance very easy. We have to secure our borders. I believe most of the weapons possessed by these criminal elements made their way into this country, thanks to the borders. Our security agents need to up their game to protect the lives and properties of Nigerians.’’
The DG maintains that providing a safe society is the job of all. “If you want something done right, do it yourself. That brings us to our role in providing a safe environment for ourselves, our families, our livelihood and our nation. Ask yourself these questions; what are the things I do when no one is watching? How am I raising my children? What do I do when I see a child running after a moving vehicle to sell his or her wares? How many of these vulnerable children have I helped?”
Dr David advised that we put forward role models of enviable characters for our young ones. “Let us be concerned about every child. The aggrieved child we leave behind might look for succor in detrimental places,” he added.
In his statement, Dr David solicited for government policies that encourage developments.
Finally, he called all hands to be on desk to defeat insecurity. “The government, civil society groups, business organizations and individuals must to fight insecurity so as to create a flourishing economy.”
