Ministry Pledges to Promote Deaf Sports Nationally

The Honourable Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, extended a warm welcome to Nigeria's Men's Deaf football team, affectionately known as the "Deaf Eagles," upon their return to Abuja. The team's return followed their remarkable participation in the 4th edition of the World Deaf Football Championships, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During this historic occasion, the Minister commended the Deaf Eagles for their exceptional performance, which not only represented the nation but also marked Nigeria's debut in the championship. He highlighted the significance of this momentous achievement, considering that Nigeria had not been part of the tournament for over a decade.

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to each of you for proudly representing Nigeria at the World Championships," stated the Minister. "This marks our first appearance since the inception of the tournament in 2008. It is a momentous occasion where the Nigerian flag was proudly displayed at the global stage."

In response to this achievement, the Ministry of Sports Development has expressed its commitment to advancing the cause of deaf sports in Nigeria. Senator John Owan Enoh disclosed that efforts would be initiated to include deaf sports as a mandatory category at the National Sports Festivals and Youth Games.

This landmark decision aims to promote inclusivity and recognition of the remarkable talents within the deaf sports community. The Ministry's dedication to enhancing the prospects of deaf athletes reflects a pivotal step towards a more inclusive and diverse sporting landscape in Nigeria.

As the Deaf Eagles' remarkable journey continues to inspire the nation, the Ministry of Sports Development looks forward to championing the cause of deaf sports and nurturing a future generation of accomplished athletes.
