Here is what Oceediary got to say about the Unpopular Soccer rule that got Nigeria's goal against Cameroon cancelled at the AFCON 2024 tournament.

UNPOPULAR RULE that got Nigeria's goal cancelled!
Normally, the offside line is drawn in relation to the last but one player behind (usually the last defender before the keeper in normal circumstances). However, when the keeper rushes off his line ahead of a defender as seen above, the goalkeeper becomes the last but one player and becomes the point where the offside line is drawn. Therefore, as seen above, every Nigerian player behind ONDOA is offside.
The Cameroon defender on the line is then considered as the goalkeeper and the goal is cancelled because the Nigerian players who are offside are blocking the view of the Cameroon player on the line.
The rule states that if the goalkeeper leaves his line and one defender is there ,then it's an offside. But if the keeper leaves his line and two defenders are at the line , it's not an offside.
That shows that the defender left behind is serving in the capacity of the goalkeeper for that moment. The only thing is that he must not hold the ball with his hand else penalty will be awarded. For me, it's a good rule.
